Diaspora is an open source social network and an alternative to other social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. In three weeks, on Sept 15, Diaspora will be launching finally.

It can be downloaded as a software package, which then can be installed on your own website. Another possibility is to use the one-click sign up version of the social network.

Diaspora was developed when Facebook´s privacy concerns came up and is a project by four New York University students. It reportedly offers end-to-end Privacy Guard (GPD) encryption to ensure your data is shared only with your friends.

On Wednesday Nissan announced that it would be introducing a host of new comfort and safety features in an attempt to improve the “emotional aspect” and appeal of their cars.

Among the new additions are heated chairs which use NASA research to facilitate blood flow, “friendly” speedometers, radar-like anti-collision technology, air purifiers and air conditioners that circulate breathable vitamin C.

A Nissan engineer said “We want drivers to feel that they are healthier staying in the car instead of outside”. Competition between car makers and the broadening role automobiles play in people´s lives are to blame for Nissan´s rash of new features.
