For the first time ever, Santa’s sleigh will be fitted with a GPS system that will allow children to follow his journey around the world on Christmas Eve. Starting at 6:00 a.m. E.S.T. on December 24, drivers with OnStar will be able to press the blue button in their vehicles and request a “Santa Update.” From there, an advisor will share St. Nick’s whereabouts based on location information provided by the The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). A new update will be available every hour through 5 a.m. EST on December 25. Santa’s hi-tech sleigh upgrades also include, Rooftop Assistance and Automatic Crash Response, On-Board Reindeer Diagnostics, Stolen Sleigh Slowdown and hands-free calling to the North Pole and Turn-By-Turn Navigation.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation today committed nearly $3.4 million in grants to bolster Internet connections for libraries in five states. It also announced partnerships with 14 additional states to help public libraries compete for federal broadband stimulus funds. Nationally, libraries report that patron demand for high-speed Internet access is growing faster than their ability to provide increased bandwidth. A recent American Library Association study reports that 60 percent of all libraries say their current Internet speed is insufficient.
Sony Ericsson’s Satio smartphone is being removed from the shelves of two retailers in the UK after users reported software problems. Neither Phones 4U, the Carphone Warehouse, or Sony Ericsson would specify the issue.

Sony Ericsson did say, however, that it was “giving this matter its utmost priority and working toward solving it.” One user said the screen freezes and there’s no ringtone, and that the “only way to solve the problem is to take the battery out.”

A report in Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post newspaper has stated that police are trying to track the group administrator of a Facebook group called “I have to practice suicide”, which creates a suicide pact dated for the 21st of December.
One 15-year-old member has already attempted suicide. The administrator posted on the Web site that “I’m not encouraging suicide. It’s supposed to be an inside joke”. The group has since been removed by Facebook.
