IBM Creates 12-Atom Magnetic Memory Bit
Posted by admin in De todo, Noticias
Scientists at American multinational technology company IBM were able to store data in bits that contain just 12 atoms. To achieve this they used antiferromagnetic bits.
Furthermore, they needed a scanning tunneling microscope to engineer 12 antiferromagnetically coupled atoms that stored a bit of data for hours at low temperatures.
“We kept building larger structures until we emerged out of the quantum mechanical into the classical data storage regime and we reached this limit at 12 atoms,” IBM explains.
