Security consultant Ron Bowles has used a code to scan Facebook and gather public data from 100 million Facebook users, including unique IDs, profile URL, and their name. The list was then put up to download on the Internet.
Facebook denies that the issue is one of privacy concerns, as the information gathered was public anyway and available on search engines such as Google and Bing. “No private data is available or has been compromised,” a Facebook statement said.
However, security analysts believe the actual issue is the fact that the information was easily scanned and collected. “It is inconceivable that a firm with hundreds of engineers couldn´t have imagined a trawl of this magnitude…”
